Space and Missile Center (SMC) The homepage of the Space and Missile Center, Los Angeles Air Force Base, California. SMC/WX is the program office for the DMSP satellites. Air Force Weather Agency (AFWA) AFWA is the primary user of DMSP satellite data. Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center (FNMOC) FNMOC, located at Monterey, California, distributes DMSP data to the Navy and Marine Corps. National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) Polar Operational Environmental Satellites (POES) POES is the civilian counterpart to DMSP. National Polar Orbiting Satellite System (NPOESS) The future NPOESS system will replace both POES and DMSP. National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) DMSP data archive. DMSP data are sent to NGDC by AFWA for archive and public access. Shared Processing Network The US Air Force, US Navy, and NOAA participate in an interagency program referred to as the Shared Processing Program (SPP) for the sharing of data, products and associated information derived from the DOD's DMSP, and NOAA's POES program.
