Discontinued ingesting RASS temperature profiles. However, we are still using them in the verification process. BLP wind profiles continue to be ingested.

We discovered an error in time conversion on 5 June 06. This means that the data for the 3 SCAQMD profile sites in our inner domain (LAX, Ontario, and Morino Valley) were seven hours offset in time. We began ingesting SCAQMD RASS T data on Dec 6, 2005 because the data weren't showing up in our BLP/RASS data stream from FSL. We began ingesting SCAQMD BLP wind data on April 26, 2006, soon after FSL discontinued pushing BLP/RASS data. Therefore, all daily runs from Dec 6, 2005 through Jun 5, 2006 are affected.

Daily runs have resumed. However, due to an upgrade on the system, analysis for the website is sporadic. Thank you for your patience while we resolve this issue.

Daily runs have been suspended due to hardware failure on the database server. We are working quickly to get the system restored, however, it may take several days.

Quickscat data unavailable from sometime in Sept 05. Starting today, Quickscat data is being assimilated into the forecast.

All runs from 22 Nov - 5 Dev 05 used only AFWA data (AFWA surface obs, raobs, AIREPS, GOES cloud drift winds, SSMIS wind, Quikscat) due to an interuption in local data acqusition (no CDEC, AQMD surface obs, NBDC buoys, BPL data). We have been unable to read RASS T data obtained from FSL for some time. As of 6 Dec, we have begun assimilating RASS T-profile data obtained directly from SCAQMD for their three stations. 3DVar treats the data as a raob.

Daily runs from October 5 to October 19, 2005 have been defaulting to using the ETA SST. Navy SST's were restored today.
Sep 06, 2005
No buoy observations were assimilated from September 1-5. There were no CDEC observations from August 28-30. There were no AFWA obs on August 30.
May 18, 2005
Discontinued ingest of AFWA buoy observations (encoded as ships, FM13) on 18 May and began ingesting NDBC obs (encoded buoys, FM18) using the 3DVar buoy observation type operator on 25 May. Note: 18-24 May no buoy observations were assimilated.

The daily runs are now ingesting GPS TPW data.
March 22, 2005
We are now ingesting QuikSCAT data if it is available during our initializaton window.

Website upgraded to 2GB. This expands the online archive from 14 days to 30-45 days.

We are experiencing connectiving issues with NCEP in retrieving ETA model data used for initializing our model. We are researching alternative methods for receiving ETA data. Forecast will be frequently posted late until problem has been resolved.
Jan 5, 2005: Connectivity to BLP/RASS data was interrupted on Dec 27th and restored on Jan 5th.

Surface pressure reports from CDEC stations are excluded from the data assimilation due to suspect quality control.

Daily runs have resumed.

Nov 02, 2004

We have suspended daily runs while we investigate a method to improve the estimates of 3DVar background errors. Missed runs will be postprocessed at a later date.

Nov 01, 2004
All forecasts from this date forward are generated with 3DVar version dated 7-21-04.
Oct 30, 2004
The network was down on October 30-31 and the Cray is still down, so runs have been interrupted.

Resumed ingest of BLP and RASS data sets.
Sep 30, 2004
A problem surfaced with the BLP and RASS data set from FSL. We are unable to include that data until we resolve the problem.
Aug 27, 2004
All forecasts from this date forward are generated using the 3dVar preprocessor version 1_3_03dvar_obs 6-04-03. As a result, BLP wind profile data are now being assimilated with the new BLP observation type code (#-132). RASS Temperature profiles are still treated as raob observations. Note, we are not yet including the NCDC buoy or GPSMet data until we have tested the new operators for these obs types that are also contained in the 3DVar update.
Jul 26, 2004
We are experiencing problems with our automated run scripts. Any missed runs this causes from 23 Jul 04 forward will be manually postprocessed with the updated 3DVar code.
Aug 25, 2004
RASS Temperature profile data are now being ingested, though they are treated as RAOB data.

Implemented 3DVar algorithm update version WRF1.2 dated 7-9-03. We are experiencing a problem ingesting profile data from FSL (BLP and RASS) and are excluding these observations from daily runs until the issue is resolved. In addition, we are excluding NCDC buoy data and GPS TPW data until we resolve the BLP/RASS ingest problem and can then evaluate the new buoy and GPSTPW observation type operators.

Mar 18, 2004
In anticipation of implementing 3DVar update Version WRF1.2 dated 7-9-03 with special observation operators for BLP Wind profiles, GPSMet Total Precipitable Water, and Bouys, we modified the software that converts observations to Little R format to use the new obs type codes. Because the current 3DVar Version(dtg?) does not read these new obs type codes, these types of data will not be assimilated until 3DVar Version WRF1.2 dated 7-9-03 is actually implemented and tested. Note that we only tag NDBC buoys with the new buoy code; buoys embedded in the AFWA data stream are coded as surface obs and therefore continue to be assimilated.
